Liebster Award

My friend, Anna, over at For the Love of Clothes, has a great blog about fashion and other fun (and not so fun) things going on in her life.  She keeps promising me she is going to trek across our great state to give me a fashion makeover but I’m still waiting…   🙂

So Anna posted on her blog the other day that she won the Liebster Award and then she proceeded to pass it along to me.  I did a little research and it seems this Liebster award is a way to get small blogs some publicity, so I’ll take it.

Because I have accepted this award, I need to answer the following questions:

1.) What did you want to be when you grew up and how/why/did that vision change when you did? I pretty much always wanted to be an elementary teacher when I was little.  We would play school for hours and hours.  I even taught my brother how to write his name.  I became an elementary teacher and it didn’t take me long to realize that I could not do that for 30 years.  I was blessed enough to come across the library job that I still have and I’m very happy with my decision.  I’m still in the school but don’t have to do the stuff I wasn’t crazy about like grading and lesson plans…
2.) If you could only follow one blog (not your own) which would it be and why? That’s an easy one.  I love to read my friend, Kim’s blog, Alive and Well in Kansas.  She moved away from me to live her “happily ever after” but I still miss her every day.
3.) What is the most expensive thing you ever bought as an indulgence for yourself, and what is the story behind it? I hate to be so practical but back when I was a single girl, I splurged and bought lasik eye surgery.  This is by far the best purchase I have ever made and I would recommend anyone else to do it in a heartbeat.

4.) Which word or phrase do you most overuse? Parker, stop.  or maybe Go back to bed…
5.) How do you relax?  I love a hot bath and a book.  Chocolate is never far behind and when it’s nice outside I like to go out to the garden and just be by myself.
6.) What single thing would improve the quality of your life (and don’t say money)?  I would really like a hot tub…is that shallow?
7.) What do you consider your greatest achievement (and children do not count here if you have them)? When I became a librarian, I made some professional goals for myself.  They aren’t super big but things that I knew I wanted to accomplish.  I have met each of those and am looking for bigger and better goals.
8.) What is your biggest regret? I wish I would have broken more hearts as a single girl.  I was always afraid I wouldn’t find anything better so I stayed too long with boys that I probably shouldn’t have.  I wish I would have had more confidence in myself to live out my dreams whether I had a boy beside me or not.  I should have traveled more and taken more chances.  No regrets on who I ended up with though…God definitely kept the best for last!
9.) Tell me something people would be surprised to know about you.  I used to have no clue how to do pretty much anything in the kitchen.  My good friend once told me she needed to teach me to cook to make me more marketable on the hunt for a husband  🙂  Now I love to cook, garden, can and preserve things…I’m a regular Betty Crocker and I have come a long way.
10.) Does your blog accurately reflect all of you, a part of you, or is your blog persona completely different from the “real” you? Details please. I think that too many people try too hard to make their lives look perfect and we miss out on too many lessons from others because of it.  I try to be as real as possible on my blog.  I feel as though I live in a Disney Channel sitcom most of the time but at the end of the day we can sit back and laugh at the antics of our children.  We are definitely making memories.
11.) The Book or The Movie? I’m a librarian.  Obviously the book.  Is it a question?

Next I have to tell you 11 things about myself.

1.  I started playing the piano when I was 5 years old.  I started playing at church when I was a preteen and recently have started playing once in awhile at my church now.  I even taught piano lessons when I first moved to town.

2.  I love books that I can read and not have to think.  Nothing too smutty but “literary candy” as one friend refers to it, is my favorite.

3.  I read 250-300 books each year.

4.  I have a button collection from when I was a kid.  I collected buttons and put them on my jean jacket for display.  I still have this collection and just bought some historic buttons from the town I live in now to add to my collection.

5.  I am the husband in my relationship.  Well, if you know us at all, you probably know this.  I’m the messy one and my wonderful husband does more than his share of work around the house.

6.  I worked as a telemarketer in college for a satellite company.  I don’t remember which one it was and I quit after not too long because I wasn’t very good at convincing people with too little of an income that they needed a satellite.

7.  If you name a YA book, I can probably tell you the author and if I have it in our library.

8.  I could eat pizza every day of my life and be happy.

9.  Growing up, my grandparents owned a pizza place and I ate pizza the entire time we visited, every time.  I never got bored.

10.  John Glenn is my cousin.  My family that lives in Ohio has met him but I have not since we live so far away.

11.  I love reality TV.  The crazier, the better.

And now I get to pick a few of my favorite blogs to pass the torch on to.
